The JR Stewart 141 Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization that was founded in 2018 shortly after the tragic day in November of 2017 when JR was taken from us.
Family and Friends gathered to honor and remember how JR lived after he was laid to rest. It was decided that we would form a foundation to continue his legacy of giving to the community he served for over 35 years as a Police Officer for the City of Las Cruces.
In 2018 we focused on forming the foundation and through the support of the community and support from the Armaduras LE MC were able to endow the JR Stewart Endowed Scholarship at NMSU.
In 2019 we focused on fundraising and child seat safety. We held our first Car Seat Safety Clinic, where we inspected over 30 vehicles and gave away 18 child safety seats.
Our Annual JR Stewart 141 Foundation Golf Tournament continues to be a big success due to the enormous support from the community of Las Cruces. Due to the success of these events, it allows us to give back to the community through our core programs. Car Seat Safety, Scholarship opportunities for children of law Enforcement, Shop with 141 and honoring our fallen law enforcement heroes.

Car Seat Clinics: JR Stewart was a champion for Car Seat Safety and strong advocate for educating young parents on the importance of “Buckling Up the kiddos”.
We have partnered with Safer New Mexico and will have certified car seat inspectors on site to inspect the child seat for proper fit based on the child’s size as well as its serviceability at of our clinics. Car Seats have an expiration date, and the inspectors will check the seat to be sure it is still within its service dates. If the car seat doesn’t pass the inspection or is expired the foundation will provide the child with a new car seat at no cost. National Police Week: JR would take younger officers with him each year to Washington D.C. for the events of Police Week to show them the importance of their role in the community. He also did this to support the survivors of the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. So, in that spirit and to continue what he started back in the late 80’s, the Foundation will sponsor two LCPD officers and send them to Washington DC for National Police Week in May of each year.
The JR Stewart Endowed Scholarship at NMSU: We continue to build the value of the fund established in 2018 on the anniversary of JR Stewart’s death. The scholarship was established to support the children and grandchildren of certified active or retired law enforcement officers from the City of Las Cruces and departments within Dona Ana County, NM.
Shop with 141: This is similar to the Shop with a Cop event that JR looked forward to every year as a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Officers would take at risk youth from the community shopping each year before they went back to school and again at Christmas. In 2017 shortly before his passing JR expressed his desire to do something similar for the children of the officers, he served with at LCPD. Stay tuned for dates and times for our annual event.
